Hebrews 5:12-14 (New King James Version)

(v12) For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

(v13) For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.

(v14) But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

What is a Baby Christian?

You are a baby Christian if you have ever accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart, but have not grown in your faith since then. This means either recently or at any time in the past.

It sometimes happens that people who make their profession of faith have the best of intentions but just didn't have someone to help them or teach them and, so, finally just stopped going to church or fell away for whatever reason. They never really began their walk with the Lord because they didn't know how.

Some of them, not knowing the Word of God, may have listened to wrong information and allowed it to influence them somehow so that they never developed as mature Christians. It is essential that you learn the Word of God so that you will be able to discern the truth from lies and deception concerning God's Word.

Think of it this way....

Baby Christians need love, teaching, leadership, and encouragement the same as newborn infants. An infant will fail to thrive without the nurturing attendance of a parent. The same is true of a baby Christian.

God wants you to grow as a believer, and, in fact, we are warned against spiritual immaturity or falling away from God. See Hebrews 5:12-14 (below), which is given here in three different translations:

As you learn more about God, you will have questions....we all do.... and you will need answers to those questions. Where can you find help? Help may come through many forms....such as this website, a great variety of reading materials, or someone in your church, but, most importantly and essentially, the Bible. All of these can help you find answers to questions.

First, you need a Bible. As you can see from the Scripture above, there are many variations of Bibles available. Many Christians have several Bibles to help them learn God's Word. Some Bibles have references to other Scriptures or explanatory paragraphs to help you understand the difficult language we normally associate with the Bible. These different Bible versions make reading the Bible interesting, even exciting, when you can understand what you're reading.

Second, you need to have contact (also called "fellowship") with other Christians. Developing these relationships is critical for you as a new believer in walking (or, another word, "living") in the Spirit of the Lord. You'll find these people in a local church. If you do not have a good Bible-based church, it is very important to find one.

Third, you will need discpleship is a lifelong journey of obedience to Christ, which transforms a person's values and behavior, and results in ministry in the home, church and the world.
